How many sheets you get
At 29.7 cm wide and 42 cm tall, the image fills a 2 × 2 grid: 4 A4 sheets. If your image is not A3 shaped, the height changes and you may get an extra row. The preview shows this before you create the PDF.
Each A4 sheet has a 10 mm margin and a bottom strip, and neighbouring sheets share 5 mm of overlap. That is why the finished poster is a little smaller than four full sheets.
Step by step
Enter 29.7 as the width, choose poster mode and download the PDF. Print at 100%, trim the white margins that touch and glue the sheets along the overlap, following the numbers.
Check the 50 mm line on one sheet with a ruler first. If it is not 50 mm, the printer is scaling the page.
An alternative
If you only need one A3 copy without assembly, a print shop does it in a minute. Printing at home suits a single copy, a test print, or when no large printer is nearby.

How many A4 sheets make an A3?
Two A4 sheets make one A3, but with margins and overlap you need 4 sheets to cover the full 29.7 × 42 cm.
Can I make a landscape A3 poster?
Yes. Choose the size and rotate the image or change the A4 orientation. The preview shows how the sheets are laid out.
Why can’t it be done with 2 sheets?
Because each A4 has a 10 mm margin and a bottom strip. With two sheets some areas would have no image.
What image quality do I need?
About 3500 × 5000 pixels works well for A3, although a current phone photo is usually enough. If the image is small it will look pixelated, however good the printer.
