    Step-by-step instructions

    Choose a PDF and type the password twice. The document is encrypted with 256-bit AES, the strongest method the PDF format defines: without the password it won’t open. Your browser does it, and neither the file nor the password is sent anywhere.

    When to use it

    Use it before emailing a payslip, a contract or a medical report, or to store personal documents in the cloud. Send the password through another channel, such as a text message, not in the same email.

    Before you start

    If you forget the password, there’s no way to recover the document, so keep the original. The protection is only as good as the password, so make it long. Very old PDF readers may not open 256-bit AES. Any change invalidates digital signatures.

    Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?

    No. Processing is local and we do not store files or filenames on a server. GitHub Pages receives normal page requests and may log connection information. This version has no analytics, advertising or trackers.

    Is it free? Is there a daily limit?

    Yes. There is no daily limit, per-document quota or paid plan. Run successive batches as needed. Safety limits are 150 MB per file, 500 pages for rendering and 25 million pixels per page. Available memory may impose lower limits.

    Does it work on a phone?

    Yes, in modern browsers. A computer often has more memory for large documents. Keep the tab open during processing and check the PDF before sending it.
