Before you start
- You will see what the file carries before anything is removed: document information, XMP, annotation authors, embedded files and JavaScript.
- Pick what to remove; everything found is ticked by default.
- The page content stays the same: text, images and comments are untouched.
- Annotations only lose their author and date; the comment text is kept.
- If the PDF is digitally signed, saving the clean copy invalidates the signature.
What it doesn’t do
- It doesn’t remove visible text or images from the pages. To take out visible content, crop or edit the PDF first.
- It doesn’t strip data baked into scanned images.
- It doesn’t anonymise you if the document content itself identifies you.
Common questions
What is PDF metadata?
Data that travels with the file but stays out of sight: who created it, when, with which software, who wrote the comments, and files embedded inside. A work PDF often says more than you’d think.
When is it useful
Before you send a document to someone who doesn’t know you, publish it or upload it to a portal. Check what it says, remove what you don’t want to share and download the clean copy.
Is the file uploaded?
No. The PDF is read and rewritten on your device. We never receive or store the file or its name. The server only gets the normal requests to load the website.
Do I lose anything from the document?
The content stays the same: same pages, text and images. Only the hidden data you pick is removed. If the PDF carries a digital signature, saving the copy invalidates it, and we tell you first.
Can I check it worked?
Yes. When it finishes you see the before and after lists. Upload the clean copy again for the final proof: nothing should be left.
